Short description of Dehistan
Dehistan is a dead medieval city on the Misrian plain, abandoned after the Mongols came and never resettled, so the desert has had it to itself ever since. Two brick minarets still stand at the old caravanserai gate with their inscription bands intact, visible across the flats long before the track reaches them. The mosque portal beside them has lost its walls but kept its frame. A short drive away the domed Shir Kabir mausoleum holds carved plaster of a quality found nowhere else in the region. Nothing is signposted and no one lives here.
