Description
Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and one of the busiest cruise ports anywhere, taking several large ships on most days of the season into a harbour right against the town. Around two thirds of everyone who stays overnight in the country stays here or across the bridge on Paradise Island. The centre keeps a run of pastel Georgian public buildings from the British colonial period, a straw market that has traded on the same spot for generations, and a limestone stairway of sixty six steps cut by enslaved labour up to a hilltop fort.
