Bimini, Bahamas

Bimini

Bahamas Β· 3 m

Description

Bimini is the closest Bahamian land to the United States, eighty kilometres east of Miami, and it has always traded on that. Rum runners used it during Prohibition and Ernest Hemingway spent summers here in the thirties chasing marlin, which is how the island got its reputation as the game fishing capital of the Bahamas. Two narrow strips of sand carry almost everything on them. Great hammerheads gather in the shallows off the west shore each winter and divers come specifically for them.
