Grand Bahama
Bahamas · 5 m
Description
Grand Bahama is the northernmost of the large islands and the closest to Florida, which made Freeport a duty free port and a mass tourism experiment from the fifties onward. Hurricane Dorian sat over the island for two days in 2019 and the recovery has been long. What the island has that the rest of the country does not is the largest charted underwater cave system in the world, honeycombing the limestone under Lucayan National Park, along with dive operators who put visitors in the water with Caribbean reef sharks.
