George Town, Bahamas

George Town

Bahamas · Exuma · 5 m

Description

George Town is the main settlement of Great Exuma and sits on Elizabeth Harbour, a long sheltered sound that fills with cruising yachts through the winter and has done since the fifties. Stocking Island lies across the water and takes the Atlantic swell, leaving the harbour flat. Its ocean side has a beach several kilometres long with a sandbar and a beach bar known to every sailor in the Caribbean. The Exuma regatta each spring races Bahamian sloops built by hand to a class that has not changed in generations.
