Description
Kumana National Park (කුමන) on Sri Lanka’s southeastern coast lies directly beside Yala National Park and is particularly renowned for its rich birdlife. At the heart of the park is Kumana Villu, an extensive wetland connected to the Kumbukkan Oya by a narrow channel and an important breeding ground for numerous waterbirds. Herons, storks, spoonbills and ibises thrive among its wetlands, while more than 250 bird species have been recorded throughout the park. Elephants, leopards, crocodiles and other wildlife also inhabit this diverse ecosystem. Nearby, the Kudumbigala Rock is home to the remains of a historic Buddhist monastery. Kumana combines pristine landscapes, important wetlands and exceptional bird diversity.
