Description
The Knuckles Mountain Range (දුම්බර කඳුවැටිය) lies northeast of Kandy and takes its English name from a series of peaks resembling the knuckles of a clenched fist. Together with Horton Plains and Peak Wilderness, it forms part of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, a UNESCO World Heritage property. Misty forests, montane grasslands, streams and waterfalls shape the landscape, which is home to a remarkable variety of endemic plants and animals. Popular trails lead through Riverston, Pitawala Pathana and Mini World’s End, while the remote village of Meemure lies within the mountain range and retains a traditional agricultural character. Knuckles is one of Sri Lanka’s most diverse landscapes for hiking and nature exploration.
