Kalpitiya (කල්පිටිය) is a narrow peninsula on Sri Lanka’s northwestern coast, known for its long sandy beaches, expansive lagoon and favourable conditions for kitesurfing. The region lies between the sheltered waters of Kalpitiya Lagoon and the open Indian Ocean, offering opportunities for water sports, dolphin watching, as well as snorkelling and diving excursions. Mangroves, wetlands and traditional fishing villages shape the landscape, while the waters offshore support a diverse marine ecosystem. Notable experiences include exploring the lagoon and taking excursions along the coast.
