Description
Iasi (Iași) was the capital of Moldavia and then of all Romania during the First World War, and it still carries itself as a capital, with a boulevard of ministries, the largest university in the country and a student population that fills the terraces. The Palace of Culture closes the boulevard like a town hall that outgrew its town. In the Metropolitan Cathedral lie the relics of Saint Parascheva, which draw around three hundred thousand pilgrims every October in the largest Orthodox pilgrimage anywhere. Around the cathedral stand Moldavian churches whose stone is carved like textile, above all the Three Hierarchs.
