Hikkaduwa (හික්කඩුව) is a lively beach resort on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast and a popular destination for beach holidays and water sports. The coastal town is known for its long sandy beaches, good surfing conditions and the rich marine life of Hikkaduwa National Park, with its protected coral reefs, tropical reef fish and sea turtles. Hikkaduwa combines surfing, snorkeling and diving with a diverse selection of restaurants, beach bars, hotels and guesthouses. The long established resort first gained international attention as a travel destination in the 1960s and remains one of Sri Lanka’s best known beach destinations and a popular stop along the southwest coast.
