Description
Fuvahmulah (ފުވައްމުލަށް) is a unique island in the south of the Maldives and the country’s only one island atoll. Surrounded by a fringing reef and bordered by the deep open ocean, the island offers exceptional access to diverse marine life close to shore. Fuvahmulah is especially renowned for its regular encounters with tiger sharks, as well as thresher sharks, hammerheads, oceanic manta rays and whale sharks. On land, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve features two natural freshwater lakes, wetlands, lush vegetation and the famous Thoondu Beach, known for its smooth white coral pebbles. The island is accessible by domestic flight from Malé.
