Short description of Duhok
Duhok (دهۆك) sits in a bowl between two mountain ridges in the far north of Iraqi Kurdistan and is the base for the mountain valleys around it. A dam holds back a lake at the edge of town, and the slopes of Zawa Mountain are climbed for the view over the rooftops. The bazaar sells Kurdish cloth, honey and dried fruit, and families spend summer evenings in the parks and at the lakeside cafés. Zakho with its arched Delal Bridge lies towards the Turkish border, and the cliff village of Amadiya and the waterfalls of Sulav are an easy drive east.
