Short description of Amadiya
Amadiya (ئامێدی) is a small town on a flat topped mesa that rises straight out of the Sapna valley, and the setting is the reason to come. The plateau has been settled for millennia and once held Jewish, Christian and Muslim quarters side by side. The Mosul Gate cut into the rock, an Assyrian era carving beside it and a lone minaret of the great mosque are the surviving landmarks. Paths lead along the cliff edge for views over the valley and the mountains towards Turkey. The resort village of Sulav with its waterfalls lies directly below the rock.
