Description

Butrint National Park (Parku Kombëtar i Butrintit) in southern Albania is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country's most important archaeological treasures. Set amid lagoons, forests and wetlands, it preserves the remarkably well-preserved ruins of an ancient city that was continuously inhabited from the Greek and Roman periods through the Byzantine and Venetian eras. Visitors can explore the Greek theatre, temples, city walls, early Christian monuments and the famous baptistery with its intricate mosaic floor. Combining more than two millennia of history with an exceptional natural landscape, Butrint is one of the Balkans' most remarkable cultural heritage sites.
