Description
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and takes the large majority of the country's visitors, two cities joined across the Danube with hilly Buda on one bank and flat Pest on the other. The riverfront, the castle district and Andrássy Avenue carry UNESCO World Heritage status together. Over a hundred thermal springs feed bathhouses that range from Ottoman domes to the yellow neo-baroque palace of Széchenyi. The parliament is the largest building in the country, the ruin bars fill old courtyards in the seventh district, and the Chain Bridge links the two halves. The two halves feel different enough that people pick a side.
