Short description of Bahrain Fort
Qal'at al-Bahrain is a mound on the north shore built up by four thousand years of people living on the same spot, the capital of Dilmun at the bottom and a Portuguese fort on the top. What you see from the road is only that last layer. Below it the excavations cut down through Tylos, Islamic and Persian levels, and the site museum beside the tell lays the finds out in order. The seafront palm grove runs along one side. Late afternoon is when the walls are worth the walk, and there is no shade.
