Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka

Arugam Bay

Sri Lanka · Eastern Province

Description

Arugam Bay (ආරුගම් බොක්ක) on Sri Lanka’s remote southeastern coast is one of the country’s best known surfing destinations and is centred around its sweeping bay. Surf spots such as Main Point, Whiskey Point and Peanut Farm offer varied wave conditions and have made the area an international hub for surf culture. Palm trees, small guesthouses, cafés and restaurants create a relaxed atmosphere along the coast. Arugam Bay combines tropical beach life and surfing culture with lagoons, secluded coastal stretches and the diverse nature of the surrounding region. Nearby Kumana National Park adds extensive wetlands, rich birdlife and opportunities to encounter elephants and other wildlife.
