Description
Ahangama (අහංගම) is a popular coastal town in southern Sri Lanka and a hub of the region’s surf culture. Along the palm-fringed coast between Galle and Weligama, numerous surf spots can be found, including Kabalana with its sandy sections and the more challenging reef break known as The Rock. The surrounding coastline offers further renowned breaks around Midigama and nearby beaches. Ahangama combines a relaxed beach atmosphere with cafés, restaurants, yoga and accommodation set amid tropical greenery. Just a few kilometres east lies Koggala Lagoon, known for its islands, temples and cinnamon gardens. Traditional stilt fishing also forms part of the coast’s cultural heritage.
