Walvis Bay, Namibia

Walvis Bay

Namibia · Erongo · 4 m

Description

Walvis Bay is Namibia’s most important port city, set beside a vast protected lagoon on the Atlantic coast. The city is renowned for its rich birdlife, including large populations of flamingos, pelicans, and other waterbirds, as well as boat trips offering opportunities to see dolphins and Cape fur seals. Thanks to steady coastal winds and expansive beaches, Walvis Bay is also an excellent destination for kitesurfing and other water sports. With towering Dune 7 nearby and Sandwich Harbour to the south, where the dunes of the Namib meet the Atlantic Ocean, the port city is an ideal gateway to some of the most spectacular natural landscapes along Namibia’s coast.
