NamibRand Nature Reserve, Namibia

NamibRand Nature Reserve

Namibia · Hardap · 1000 m

Description

NamibRand Nature Reserve is one of Africa’s largest private conservation areas and one of Namibia’s most spectacular desert landscapes. Created from former farmland and bordering Namib-Naukluft National Park, the reserve is known for its red dunes, vast gravel plains, rugged mountains, and mysterious fairy circles. Oryx, springbok, Hartmann’s mountain zebras, and numerous other desert-adapted species roam its largely untouched wilderness. As Africa’s first Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve, NamibRand also offers exceptional conditions for observing the Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds, and the southern night sky. A small number of widely spaced lodges and a strong commitment to low-impact tourism make the reserve an exceptionally peaceful wilderness experience away from the crowds of Sossusvlei.
