Kalahari

Namibia · Hardap · 1100 m

Description

The Kalahari is a vast semi-desert and savanna landscape in eastern Namibia, known for its striking red sand dunes, open grasslands, and distinctive camel thorn trees. Unlike the drier Namib, much of the Kalahari’s dunes are covered with vegetation, providing a habitat for oryx, springbok, giraffes, predators, and numerous bird species. Particularly impressive are the enormous communal nests of sociable weavers, which can be seen hanging from trees across the savanna. The tranquil expanses, spectacular sunsets, and clear night skies give the Kalahari a unique atmosphere. Encounters with San guides also offer insights into traditional tracking skills, native plants, and life in this arid environment.
