Umm Al Quwain (أم القيوين) is one of the least developed and quietest of the seven emirates, a narrow coastal strip north of Ajman facing a shallow lagoon dotted with mangrove islands. The emirate's biggest draw is Dreamland Aqua Park, one of the UAE's largest water parks, while Al Sinniyah Island and the surrounding mangroves are reached by boat and support flamingos, herons and a resident dolphin population. The ancient port city of Ed-Dur, an important pre-Islamic trading site on the UNESCO tentative list, lies within the emirate, alongside a small National Museum housed in the old fort. With almost none of the high-rise development seen elsewhere in the Emirates, Umm Al Quwain remains a genuinely low-key corner of the Gulf coast.
