Description
Terekeka is a small river town north of the capital and the usual way in to the Mundari cattle camps. In the dry months the herders bring their long horned Ankole cattle down onto the flats by the Nile and camp among them, and the camps are what the visit is. Burnt dung smoulders all day, the ash keeps the flies off animals and people alike, and the smoke turns the low sun into something almost solid. The two hours that matter are dusk and dawn. When the rains come the herds disperse inland and the track from Juba closes.
