Description
Nimule stands where the White Nile crosses into South Sudan from Uganda and is the busiest land crossing in the country, a truck town on the only stretch of good tarmac. The national park beside it is the oldest and smallest in the country and the one most people actually see, with hippos and crocodiles in the river, Uganda kob and waterbuck on the grass and a herd of elephants that is much smaller than the brochures suggest. Boats run out to Opekoloe island. A few kilometres upstream the river breaks into the Fula rapids below a gorge.
