Description
Juba is the capital of South Sudan and the only way into the country that works, a low spread of compounds, container shops and aid agency offices on the west bank of the White Nile. It began as a trading post and became a capital at independence, and it has never had the time or the peace to look like one. The sights are modest, the John Garang mausoleum, the noise of Konyo Konyo market and the granite hump of Jebel Kujur behind the town. What people come for is the riverbank at dusk and everything the city is a base for.
