Description
Kapoeta is the town of the dry east, a full day's drive from the capital across semi arid country towards the Kenyan border. It is Toposa land, a cattle people of the Karamojong group whose beadwork, scarification and camps are what almost every visitor comes to see. In the dry riverbeds around the town men and women pan for gold by hand. The hills south and west hold other peoples entirely, the Boya of the painted villages around Camp Fifteen, the Didinga around Chukudum and the Lopit on their steep terraced slopes, each a day or more away.
