Description
Taï (Parc national de Taï) holds the last substantial block of primary rainforest left in West Africa, thirty three hundred square kilometres of it, and has been a UNESCO site since 1982. The forest here escaped the logging that took almost everything comparable in Ghana, Liberia and the rest of Côte d'Ivoire. Its chimpanzees are the ones researchers made famous for cracking nuts with stone hammers on root anvils, a tool tradition passed down for generations, and the habituated group at the research station can be tracked on foot with a permit and a good deal of walking.
