Description
Sassandra is an old French colonial port at the mouth of the river of the same name on the western coast, and the beaches on either side of it are the emptiest on the Ivorian shore. The town keeps a scatter of decaying colonial buildings on the bluff above the estuary and a working fishing harbour below. Poly Beach and Drewin, a few kilometres east and west, are palm-backed and effectively unbuilt, and the Atlantic here is rough enough that swimming needs care and the local advice is worth taking.
