Description
Man calls itself the city of eighteen mountains and sits in a green bowl in the far west near the Liberian and Guinean borders, which makes it the one part of Côte d'Ivoire where the landscape rather than the coast is the point. Mont Tonkoui at eleven hundred and eighty nine metres is the second highest in the country and can be driven most of the way up. The Dan villages around it are known for stilt dancers who perform on poles several metres high, and for liana bridges woven from living vines and maintained by ritual.
