Description
Speightstown is the second town of Barbados and the oldest working port after Bridgetown, once busy enough with the Bristol sugar trade to be called Little Bristol. It kept its old street plan and a run of two storey merchant houses with overhanging galleries, which is unusual on an island that rebuilt most of its coast. The tone is quieter than the resort strips further south. Mullins Beach a little way down the coast is the main swimming spot. Inland the parish rises to Farley Hill and a reserve where green monkeys feed in the afternoon.
