Description
Bathsheba is a fishing village on the Atlantic side, and the coast here has nothing in common with the sheltered west. Swell that has crossed the open ocean breaks straight onto the shore, mushroom shaped boulders of eroded coral stand in the shallows, and the water is too rough to swim except in the rock pools. The Soup Bowl is the best known surf break in the eastern Caribbean and holds a competition each year. Andromeda Botanic Gardens climb the slope behind the village. Barbadians come here at weekends rather than to stay.
