Description
Holetown sits halfway up the sheltered west coast, the stretch estate agents call the Platinum Coast, where the Caribbean is flat almost every day and the sand is pale and fine. The first English settlers landed here in 1627 and a monument on the main road marks the spot. The town itself is small, with a shopping arcade, a parish church and a run of restaurants along First and Second Street. What draws people is the water. Turtles and a shallow wreck lie off Paynes Bay, and Folkestone Marine Park protects the reef just north.
