Samaipata, Bolivia

Samaipata

Bolivia · Llanos · 1650 m

Description

Samaipata is a picturesque town in the eastern foothills of the Bolivian Andes, where the highlands give way to the Amazon lowlands. It is best known for its mild climate, relaxed atmosphere, and the archaeological site of El Fuerte de Samaipata, whose monumental carved sandstone outcrop is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just a few kilometres away lies Amboró National Park, one of South America's most biodiverse protected areas, encompassing cloud forests, montane forests, and tropical rainforest. The combination of remarkable pre-Columbian heritage, spectacular natural surroundings, and small-town charm makes Samaipata one of eastern Bolivia's most appealing destinations.
