Isla del Sol is the largest island on Lake Titicaca and one of the most important cultural and pilgrimage sites in the Andes. According to Inca tradition, it was here that the story of their empire began. The car-free island is known for its ancient stone paths, centuries-old agricultural terraces, traditional villages, and remarkable Inca sites, including the Sacred Rock, the Chincana ceremonial complex, and the Inca Steps (Escalera del Inca). Most visitors arrive by boat from Copacabana and explore the island on scenic hikes with spectacular views across the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca to the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Real. The unique combination of breathtaking landscapes, living Andean culture, and rich history makes Isla del Sol one of Bolivia's most captivating destinations.
