Description
Rincón is the surf town of Puerto Rico and sits on the western corner of the island where the Atlantic meets the Mona Passage. It came to attention when the World Surfing Championship was held here in 1968, and the winter swell that made its name still arrives from the north Atlantic between November and March. A decommissioned lighthouse park on Punta Higüero looks straight out over the water, and from January humpback whales pass close enough to watch from the cliff without a boat. Sunset here is a daily event because this is the only true west-facing coast on the island.
