Description
Culebra is a dry island of about twelve hundred people lying twenty seven kilometres east of the main island, reached by ferry from Ceiba in three quarters of an hour. It is known almost entirely for Flamenco Beach, a mile of white sand in a horseshoe bay that appears on most lists of the best beaches in the world. Two rusting tanks sit on the sand, left from decades when the United States Navy used the island for target practice. There are no big resorts, most of the island is a wildlife refuge, and people get around by golf cart.
