Description
Cabo Rojo is the southwestern corner of Puerto Rico and the least developed stretch of its coast, a headland of white limestone cliffs dropping straight into very clear water. A small Spanish lighthouse of 1882 stands on the point above them. Below it lies Playa Sucia, a curve of pale sand in a bay that despite the name is among the cleanest beaches on the island. Inland the salt flats have been worked since before the Spanish arrived and turn pink in the dry months. The refuge around them is one of the best shorebird sites in the Caribbean.
