Luquillo
Puerto Rico · 5 m
Description
Luquillo sits on the northeast coast directly below El Yunque and holds the beach most Puerto Ricans name first, a long crescent of pale sand behind a screen of coconut palms with the forested mountains rising straight behind it. A reef offshore takes the swell out, so the water inside is flat enough for small children. At the western end of the beach road stands a row of about sixty open food kiosks, the kioskos, serving fritters, seafood and rum from morning until late. La Pared at the other end is the local surf break.
