Description
Palumeu is a village of Trio, Wayana and Aparai families where the Palumeu river runs into the Tapanahony, three hundred kilometres into the interior with no road anywhere near it. A light aircraft from Zorg en Hoop takes an hour and lands on the grass strip beside the houses. The lodge is run with the village, and the guides are its own people. Days go on the river in a dugout, up the Kasikasima granite dome, or out on a forest path being shown which bark is a medicine. Nights are loud with frogs. Some two hundred and eighty people live in the village.
