Description
Olduvai Gorge is one of the world's most important paleoanthropological sites and, together with Laetoli, forms part of the Ngorongoro UNESCO World Heritage Site. The steep sided gorge is renowned for the discoveries made by the Leakey family, which provided groundbreaking insights into the early evolution of hominins. Just a short distance away lie the approximately 3.6 million year old fossil footprints of Laetoli, the oldest clear evidence of upright walking in hominins. Together, Olduvai and Laetoli rank among the most significant places in human history and attract scientists and culturally interested travelers from around the world.
