Gombe Stream National Park lies along the shores of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania and is one of the country’s most important protected areas for primate research. The smallest national park in Tanzania became world-famous through Jane Goodall’s groundbreaking chimpanzee studies, which began here in 1960 and transformed our understanding of our closest animal relatives. The park is characterized by lush forested hills, deep valleys, tropical vegetation, and an exceptional diversity of wildlife, best experienced on guided walks that lead visitors to habituated chimpanzee communities.
