Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa's most spectacular natural wonders. The approximately 600-meter-deep crater forms a nearly self-contained ecosystem with an exceptionally high concentration of wildlife, including the Big Five and the endangered black rhinoceros. Thanks to its year-round water sources and fertile grazing lands, around 25,000 large animals thrive within the crater. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the region combines breathtaking landscapes of grasslands, forests, and lakes with the living cultural traditions of the Maasai people.
