Description
The Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa's most spectacular natural wonders. The approximately 600-meter-deep crater forms a nearly self-contained ecosystem with an exceptionally high concentration of wildlife, including the Big Five and the endangered black rhinoceros. Thanks to its year-round water sources and fertile grazing lands, around 25,000 large animals thrive within the crater. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the region combines breathtaking landscapes of grasslands, forests, and lakes with the living cultural traditions of the Maasai people. Renowned as one of Africa's finest safari destinations, the Ngorongoro Crater offers some of the continent's most rewarding wildlife viewing experiences.
