Mafia Island
Tanzania · Pwani · 10 m
Description
Mafia Island (Chole Mafia) is a tranquil island off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean and a natural haven away from the country’s more crowded destinations. Part of the Mafia Island Marine Park, the island is known for its rich marine biodiversity, vibrant coral reefs, diverse diving and snorkeling sites, and seasonal encounters with whale sharks in the plankton-rich waters of Chole Bay. Mafia combines untouched coastal landscapes, traditional fishing villages, and a relaxed island atmosphere with an exceptional underwater world. As a less-developed destination south of Zanzibar, the island offers an authentic glimpse of tropical island life in Tanzania and is considered one of East Africa’s most remarkable nature and diving destinations.
