Short description of Jemberem
Jemberem is a village inside the forest of the far south and the base for the best primate watching in the country, where chimpanzees live at the very western limit of their range and have learned to crack palm nuts with stones. Guides from the village walk visitors out at first light to look for them. The forest here is the last substantial block left in the country and holds colobus, duikers and buffalo as well. A community lodge run by the village takes in the small numbers who come. The tracks close in the rains.
