Description

Ios (Ίος) is a distinctive Cycladic island that combines wide sandy beaches, a picturesque Chora and a rich cultural heritage. The island is known for the popular beach of Mylopotas, the secluded bays of Manganari, its whitewashed houses and lively nightlife around the Chora. Ios also has an important archaeological heritage. The Early Cycladic settlement of Skarkos, dating from the 3rd millennium BC, is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Cyclades. According to ancient tradition, Homer was buried on Ios. Today, the island offers more than beaches and entertainment, with peaceful landscapes, hiking trails and cultural attractions providing a quieter side to its vibrant character.
