Description
Djanet is a Tuareg oasis town in the far south east of Algeria, tucked below the sandstone wall of the Tassili n'Ajjer plateau. Palm gardens and three old ksour of mud brick sit at the foot of the cliffs, and the town is the base from which every expedition into the plateau and into the red dunes of the Tadrart sets out. Guides, cooks and four wheel drives are organised here, and the Sebiba festival fills the streets with drums and sword dances. The night sky over the surrounding desert is among the darkest and clearest anywhere in the Sahara.
