Description
Chaguaramas is the peninsula west of Port of Spain, a former United States naval base handed back in the nineteen sixties and now the recreation ground of the capital. Yachts shelter here through the hurricane season because Trinidad lies south of the storm belt, which has built a large boatyard industry along the shore. Boats run out to the small islands offshore, where Gasparee has a limestone cave with a tidal pool at the bottom. Trails climb the forested hills behind to the Edith Falls and a covigilance lookout. Everything here lies within twenty minutes of the capital.
