Description
The Asa Wright Nature Centre sits at four hundred metres in the Arima valley of the Northern Range and is one of the most celebrated birding lodges in the world, a former cocoa and coffee estate turned reserve in the nineteen sixties. Its veranda alone produces dozens of species without anyone moving, with hummingbirds, honeycreepers and bellbirds coming to the feeders through the morning. A cave on the property holds a breeding colony of oilbirds, nocturnal fruit eaters that navigate by echolocation and live in only a handful of places. Staying overnight is what makes the place, since the birds come at first light.
