Description
Castara is a fishing village in a bay on the leeward north coast of Tobago that has grown a small tourism economy without losing its working harbour, and the two still operate side by side on the same sand. When the seine net comes in the whole village hauls it, and anyone standing there is expected to help and gets a share of the catch. Guesthouses are family run and built up the hillside. A waterfall runs down the valley behind, and a second smaller beach lies past the rocks. There is no bank and no supermarket, and the road in is steep.
