Description
The Brandberg is Namibia's highest massif, a granite dome rising more than two thousand metres out of the flat gravel plains west of Damaraland. Its name comes from the way the western face glows red at sunset. The Tsisab Ravine on the northern side holds the White Lady, the country's best-known rock painting, reached on a guided walk of about two hours from the car park. More than forty thousand paintings and engravings are recorded across the massif, most of them in ravines that almost nobody visits. The summit plateau, Königstein, is a demanding multi-day climb with no marked route.
